By Kirsten Veenstra The Western Cape Dinghy Champs, organised by SAS Western Cape, is always an incredibly well-run and organised event, and this year was no exception. The 2010 WC Champs incorporated the Hobie 16 and Mosquito Nationals and had a really great entry of 257 boats. Of these, the biggest classes were the Hobie 16’s (52 entries), Oppie A (30 entries), Dabbie (21 entries) and Laser Radials (20 entries). Sadly missing this year were the Extras and the Fireballs, possibly because many of these sailors decided to leave their dinghies in favour of the Hobie 16 Nationals and were sailing in other classes. A wonderful new edition to the fleet were 19 RS Teras, most from Mossel Bay and False Bay, with many juniors who have just started sailing getting great experience in their first regatta.

Congratulations to Kevin Webb and Vaughn Krumbock who are the 2010 National Mosquito Champions and to William Edwards and Lucinda Edwards who are the 2010 Hobie 16 National Champions.

For the record – no one that has anything to do with the running of this event receives any remuneration for their work – they are all volunteers – doing it for the good of sailing. The regatta is being run on its own income as no major financial sponsors were forthcoming. Various class reps obtained sponsored prizes from a number of contributors; for which we thank them; but that is all of the support that the event received.

It should be 086 537 1451 Please go to www.wcchamps.sailing.org.za and check that your entry has been received. If you are not listed as an entry then please re-send your documentation. If there is a question mark or 'no paperwork' next to your listing, then please also re-send your entry form. We apologize again for any inconvenience. We are extending the deadline for entries to 9 April 2009, so if you have not entered yet, please do so right away, thereafter you will be required to pay the late entry fee.

Please remember that March 30 is the Closing date for entries for the WC Championships and Hobie16 & Mosquito Nationals, thereafter you will be required to pay the late entry fee!!

It is extremely difficult for the organizing committee to make the necessary arrangements unless they know how many boats will be participating.

We are having a few glitches with the online entries as people are not completing all of the required fields and thus their form does not get through to us.  Please ensure that you complete ALL of the fields or if you do not know the required information just put ‘TBA’.  Alternatively you can fax the form to 086 537 1451
